Shallow Breaths

It grows, like a parasite,
Sneaking in and setting up home.
Shallow breaths, shallow breaths.
In through the nose out the mouth.
The ache, the hollow feeling just below where your sternum ends.
The heavy feeling in your arms and shoulders
Mirroring your heavy heart.
Eyes feel hot with tears unshed.
And throat tightened against an escaping sound.
And all is silent all around, bar the breathing
Shallow breaths, shallow breaths.
